Operating as an officer aboard a petroleum product tanker requires a Tank Vessel endorsement on top of your master's or mate's license. The exam covers petroleum cargo properties (flash points, vapor pressure, grades), loading and discharging operations, inert gas systems, MARPOL environmental regulations, fire prevention and firefighting aboard tankers, and the pre-transfer declaration of inspection requirements.
